HUNGRY DOGS HAVE PULLED EACH OTHER TO PIECES.

Dogs which were not fed for days in a dog shelter in Aydin- Kusadasi, have pulled each other to pieces.

The building which was used as a prison for years was turned to a dog shelter by the municipality. The municipality gave the duty of running the shelter to a firm named Limas. The contract between the municipality and the firm ended on December 31. But the shelter was not retaken by the municipality at this date. After the employees of Limas went away, the dogs at the shelter were left without any food during the holy sacrifice holiday. During the holiday, seven of the dogs were torn to pieces and eaten by other dogs. When the municipality employees arrived at the place after the holiday, they could only separate the fighting dogs with pressured water and sticks. Animal lovers who heard about the cruelty reacted to the situation. Mustafa Diker, the municipality employee who was in charge of the shelter said, “Limas has fired four employees working at this place and haven’t given information about this to anyone. The animals were starving because of this. When we transferred the place to Limas there were 240 dogs here. Now there are 210.” General manager of Limas , Mehmet Yagci said that they are not responsible for what happened after their contract of 45 days were over. He said, “Our contract was over on 31 December. The municipality had to be in charge of the place after that. We looked after the animals during our contract period.” An incident like this had happened in February last year in Kusadasi shelter.
